The Hungary Helps Program was launched in 2017 by the Hungarian government to provide effective support in crisis areas and zones including situations of man-made or natural disasters with a special focus on people suffering persecution.
The fundamental principle of our programme is to provide rapid, direct and local support to affected communities in developing countries and crisis zones primarily in the Middle Eastern region, sub-Saharan Africa and the Western Balkans. In both the short and long term, our help will enable people to remain in their current location or return to their home country.
We focus on the most needy and vulnerable people. We provide targeted relief to victims of natural and man-made crises. Recognising the link between sustainable development, humanitarian aid and peace-building we strive to carry out our work with expertise, a focus on people and complete dedication to the task at hand. Our projects are tailored to the needs of local communities, we seek international cooperation and also the involvement of local communities including churches and religious institutions within the crisis zones in question.
As a result of the aid we provide, we are able not only to heal the wounds caused by the crises, but we are also to address the root causes of migration. Our position is clear and consistent: the aid should go to the places where the problems originate and not to bring the people who are in trouble to Europe and to our country.
The Hungary Helps Program is coordinated by the State Secretariat for the Aid of Persecuted Christians Program, and its professional implementation is carried out by the Hungary Helps Agency.
