Support for the Open Hospitals initiative
The "Open Hospitals" project, initiated by the Apostolic See and carried out by the Italian AVSI Foundation, provides financial and material support to healthcare institutions that would otherwise be unable to sustain their basic operations or lack essential medical equipment necessary for patient care. The Hungarian contribution covered one year of operations for the three most significant church-run healthcare institutions in Syria: St. Louis Hospital in Aleppo, and the French and Italian Hospitals in Damascus. It also helped in acquiring crucial medical equipment. In 2020, tens of thousands of patients were treated in these three hospitals. The majority of the Hungarian donation specifically aided highly vulnerable groups. These supported hospitals provide care to those in need, regardless of religious affiliation.
