Supplying Gaza refugees through the Egyptian Red Crescent
At dawn on 7 October 2023, Hamas launched a major attack on Israel, killing hundreds. In response to the terrorist attack, Israel declared war on Hamas in the Gaza Strip and attacked the densely populated northern part of the Strip. Most of Gaza's population of more than two million people fled south towards the Egyptian border and many are trying to cross into Egypt for their own safety and that of their families. The vast majority of the 36 hospitals in the Gaza Strip have been rendered inoperable by the fighting and the war continues, with no end in sight. Egypt has been a major contributor to the humanitarian effort, with many aid shipments entering the Gaza Strip through the Rafah crossing and the Egyptian state allowed many wounded Palestinians into its territory for treatment. In order to alleviate the increased burden on the territory of Egypt, the Government of Hungary has decided to provide financial support to the Egyptian Red Crescent. Thanks to the donation, the Egyptian Health Organisation provides medical care and food to the needy and wounded Palestinian refugees.
