Participation in the rescue efforts following the 2023 earthquake
On 6 February 2023, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck South Turkey. In response to the disaster, Hungary provided immediate assistance of HUF 40 million through the Hungary Helps Program for the deployment of Hungarian medical and technical civil rescue teams. A total of six search and rescue teams were working in Hatay province, Turkey, where the most significant devastation occurred. Volunteers and staff of the National Disaster Management Directorate General, the Baptist Rescue Service, the Pest County Search and Rescue Service, the Life Signal Rescue Group, the Counter-Terrorism Centre and the Reformed Rescue Service took part in the rescue with a total of 167 people, 29 rescue dogs and 35 people were rescued alive.
