Supporting IDPs fleeing terrorism
For years, hundreds of thousands of people in Mozambique's Cabo Delgado province have fled the ravages of Islamist terrorists to the districts of Pemba and Nampula. The majority of refugees have left everything behind and became destitute, so the Hungary Helps Program’s donation addresses basic needs and reduce the pressure on the infrastructure of regions hosting refugees. The Caritas Archdiocese of Nampula (Caritas Arquidiocesana Nampula) supports the care of incoming refugees in Corrane to improve their housing, health and nutritional conditions. The complex programme plan developed by the Archdiocese aims to provide basic medical care for 1,000 internally displaced persons per month for 12 months, food parcels for 500 families, 200 light shelters for those in need and the basic tools to resume self-sufficient agricultural activities, thus contributing to alleviating the most urgent humanitarian needs of local families in the short and long term.
