Rebuilding the Petrinja school damaged in the 2020 earthquake in Croatia
On 29 December 2020, central Croatia was hit by the strongest earthquake in 140 years. The epicentre was 3 km southwest of Petrinja, in Strašnik. The natural disaster resulted in the loss of many human lives and huge material damage, amounting to approximately HUF 2000 billion. The Hungary Helps Program provided support for the renovation of two schools and a church, the works were managed by the Hungarian Ecumenical Relief Organisation. The Petrinja School opened its doors in January 2024 and the students returned to the 5,500 square metre facility with 20 classrooms, providing education for 350 students.
