Rapid housing construction project for Christian families in Bangladesh
Dakka, the capital of Bangladesh, is one of the largest cities in the world. It has a population of more than 16 million, many of whom live in poor economic conditions. The capital of Bangladesh is home to some five thousand slums, where the poorest people live in appalling conditions. In the Dakka metropolitan area, the Catholic Archdiocese of Dakka has launched a project to build prefabricated houses for Christian refugees from the Avidasi tribe who are living in the capital in very precarious conditions. With our support and in collaboration with the local Caritas organisation, we were finally able to manage to build 10 houses for Christian families in Avidas, equipped and furnished with water, electricity and bathrooms. // It is difficult to imagine how Christians from the indigenous Adivasi tribe, a religious and ethnic minority, could live without the support of the Church. The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Dakka wants to help families with multiple disadvantages by building a house on land it owns. The Hungarian government is providing HUF 16 million to 20 families to help them stay at home and reintegrate into society by providing basic living conditions. The money was used to prepare the land, build the houses and install water and electricity.
