Mauritania is one of the least developed countries in Africa, where people are particularly vulnerable to economic and security challenges, rising terrorism in the region and the effects of climate change. More than 100,000 migrants left the West African country every year in recent years, contributing significantly to the migratory pressure on Europe. The Hungary Helps Program's support in Mauritania follows the Hungarian government's principle of not bringing people in need to Europe, but rather taking help to where the need is. The organisation named Foyer de l'Enfance helps children from poor families with limited mobility in the city of Nouakchott. The children are provided with breakfast and evening meals, physiotherapy and development workshops, largely through donations. Our support was spent on medicines, food and equipment to directly help families become self-sufficient.
