Supporting the Robert de Lobkowicz Educational Centre at Bhannes Hospital
For decades, the Order of Malta Lebanon has played a leading role in assisting the country’s most vulnerable groups. In recent years, several of its initiatives have been supported by the Hungary Helps Program – including the Robert de Lobkowicz Educational Centre, operating within the premises of Bhannes Hospital. Established in 1991 by the Order of Malta, the Centre provides rehabilitation, education, and developmental care for children aged 3 to 16 living with cerebral palsy. It offers both residential and day-care services from Monday to Friday, using individualized methods tailored to each child’s specific physical and cognitive needs. Educational and therapeutic programs cover essential learning areas such as reading, writing, mathematics, computer literacy, and foreign languages. With the support of the Hungary Helps Program, the children benefited not only from structured learning but also from a range of rehabilitative and developmental therapies. The program has enhanced their speech and social skills, supported their learning progress, and introduced them to the use of digital tools – strengthening their ability to participate in education and everyday life. Beyond Bhannes Hospital, the Order of Malta Lebanon carries out several other humanitarian and emergency programs with the assistance of the Hungary Helps Program, including initiatives that support internally displaced families. The long-term goal of this project is to give children with disabilities the chance to grow, learn independence, and integrate into society – helping them lead more fulfilling and dignified lives in Lebanon.
