Education for inter-religious coexistence and against emigration - support for the operation of schools in the Holy Land
The coronavirus epidemic also led to massive job losses in the Holy Land. As a result, more than 12,000 students at 38 schools run by the Latin Patriarchate in Jerusalem in Israel, Palestine and Jordan - which educate Christian and Muslim children from kindergarten to grade 12 - have been unable to pay tuition fees. The deficit in school budgets was such that it threatened the maintenance and operation of the institutions concerned. The contribution made by Catholic schools serves all sections of society, regardless of religion or nationality. Educational activities in institutions run by the Patriarchate play an important role in preventing migration to larger cities and abroad. In Palestine, the 13 institutions they run serve nearly 5,000 students, whose continued participation in education is a prerequisite for the survival of Christian communities in the Holy Land. The schools run by the Patriarchate were deprived of the funds they needed to operate, and would have had to close without the Hungarian help. Our donation has ensured the long-term survival of the institutions and the access of children in the Holy Land to quality education.
