Development of the Women's Home and Girls' Dormitory Operated by the Eight Beatitudes Community

Our collaboration with the Eight Beatitudes Community began in 2020 when we delivered food aid to the poorest families living in the urban and suburban areas of Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of the Congo. This rapid relief provided significant support to a community severely affected by the economic and food crisis, especially during the challenging times exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Sister Márta, who serves the most vulnerable with deep empathy and commitment, personally participated in this mission. Following this, our joint efforts continued in Mali, where the Eight Beatitudes Community’s mission focused on assisting young pregnant girls and teenage mothers. These young women often became victims of violence or fled forced marriages and were particularly vulnerable due to their lack of education and vocational skills. Through the Hungary Helps program, Hungary has supported the development of the women's home and girls' dormitory established for these young women by the Eight Beatitudes Community for several years. This initiative aims to create comfortable rooms, a friendly living room, and a well-equipped kitchen while also addressing the construction of a water reservoir, the renovation and replacement of plumbing, and solutions for wastewater management. Additionally, the community has acquired a new seven-seater vehicle, enabling the safe transportation of pregnant women to hospitals, thereby saving lives during critical moments.
