Contributing to the operation of a hospital run by missionary nurses in South Sudan
The civil war in South Sudan has destroyed much of the health infrastructure. There are more than one and a half million internally displaced people in the country, and some 5.29 million people are facing a severe food crisis, exacerbated by the coronavirus pandemic and the locust infestation in Africa. The Comboni Missionary Community has been working in South Sudan since 1864 and has been running the Mapuordit County Hospital in the country since 2002. It receives no financial support from the government and relies heavily on external donors to operate. Our support, through the purchase of equipment and improvements to infrastructure, has helped to develop community health services in South Sudan, empowering the community and helping people to stay in their place.
