Construction of a drinking water treatment plant for the inhabitants of San Andrés de Canoa, a town hit by a strong earthquake in 2016

San Andrés de Canoa, a settlement of 13,000 inhabitants, has no water treatment plant at all. Piped water from 20 kilometres away is not nearly enough to meet the needs of the population and is only available once every three days. In 2016, the town was hit by an earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale, which destroyed the inadequate water supply system. The water purification equipment purchased with the help of the Hungary Helps aid can provide enough drinking water for the local population.
