In May 2025, His Holiness Mar Awa III, Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East, visited Hungary for the first time. During his visit, he was received by the State Secretariat for the Aid of Persecuted Christians and the Hungary Helps Program. There, he had the opportunity to meet with three students from his Church who are currently studying in Hungary through the Scholarship Program (SCYP).
The Patriarch expressed his heartfelt gratitude for Hungary’s steadfast support of persecuted Christians and emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation among Christian denominations.
As the Patriarch, the accompanying bishops, and the young scholars were already personally acquainted, the meeting was filled with joy and mutual appreciation. They expressed their sincere thanks for the scholarship initiative. One of the bishops noted his deep gratitude that some of their most promising young people were given the chance to study in Hungary. The students also spoke of what a tremendous opportunity and honor it is to be part of the program.
