Together with our scholarship holders we managed to organise a joint visit to one of the concerts of the Five Churches Advent Festival in Győr, where the 30-year-old Ukrainian Pikkardiyska Tertsiya and the 20-year-old Hungarian Saint Ephramm Male Choir performed traditional Christmas carols and chants together with some internationally well-known songs.
Five Churches Advent Festival is first and foremost about acceptance and faith, promoting the values of European cultural diversity, acceptance and understanding of intercultural and inter-religious diversity. Unique in Europe, five different churches of different denominations can be found within 700 metres of each other on the same street in Győr’s new town centre: a synagogue, Lutheran, Reformed, Catholic and Greek Catholic churches.
Before the concert we also enjoyed the festive street view of Győr while having mulled wine, the traditional hot drink of the winter season. The concert was a real soul and heart-warming event in the chilly winter evening.
