„Red Wednesday” is a worldwide action initiated by the Aid to the Church in Need (ACN), a Catholic Pontificial Foundation, in 2015. It is dedicated to the support of suffering and persecuted Christians. Hundreds of churches, monuments and buildings will be illuminated in red light in a global call for religious freedom and solidarity with the persecuted communities.
This year, Hungary is joining the Red Wednesday event by lighting up emblematic sites in the Buda Castle district in red light on 22 November from 16:30 to 22:00.
An explicit but not exclusive aim of the Hungary Helps Program is to enable Christians persecuted or discriminated on grounds of their faith to preserve their identity, their tangible and intangible heritage, and to prosper in their homelands.
Did you know? Christians in Africa are enduring a 70% increase in violence.
Today, more than 360 million Christians suffer high levels of persecution and discrimination for their faith. That’s 1 in 7 worldwide. In Nigeria, over the past 14 years at least 52,250 Christians have been brutally murdered at the hands of Islamist militants, 18,000 Christian churches and 2,200 Christian schools were burnt down.
