On 1 January 2024, the new law on the Hungary Helps Program, voted by Parliament, entered into force. The new law aims to create a uniform and transparent regulatory framework for Hungary’s international humanitarian aid and development policy. The objective of the law is to increase efficiency and strengthen the principles of Hungary’s solidarity.

The new Act will coordinate Hungary’s policy instruments that can contribute to the protection of human lives, mitigate crises and help communities in crisis areas to stay in place. The measure aims to ensure a more systematic and effective intervention in humanitarian disasters and crises, and to improve the process, transparency and coordination of assistance. With the new legislation, Hungary aims to strengthen its position in the field of international assistance, while stressing the primary importance of protecting human lives and solidarity.
